This page is a dedicated resource page for sheet music compositions
for the kantele, and consists of various compositions I have written for
the kantele. They range from simple repetitive melodies for the 5
string kantele to more complex songs for 5 string, multiple string, and
larger kanteles. A lot of the simpler tunes came about from just
improvising various melodies on the kantele and practicing different
phrasing and techniques, and represent my own playing style. Each
kantele I have built has contributed to different songs, either whole
melodies or parts of them. Even instruments of the same string number,
scale, and tuning can have vastly different voices and feelings that
arise and coalesce into their own songs, and improvising on different
kanteles of the same scale and tuning produces different melodies. I
compose each song using MuseScore, an excellent free sheet music
writer and editor program that I highly recommend, that allows you to
choose a variety of instruments, and save the sheet music as playable
audio files. Since the program does not have a kantele option, I use
the harp sound which is the closest to the kantele available. The sheet
music listed below is available in a PDF form that opens in a new page
and is available for download. I am more than happy to share sheet
music for anyone interested in playing the kantele or music in general,
and while you are welcome to play and perform any for your own musical
aspirations, please give credit where it is due if performing or
distributing the sheet music. However I encourage you to explore the
sheet music and have fun! I will definitely be adding more to the list
